How To Root Sony Xperia S

Recently Sony has launched a handful of excellent products that belongs Xperia series. Xperia S is undoubtedly one of the finest among the new comers. Although the device will soon receive an ICS 4 update, wouldn't it be nice if you can get this fine gadget rooted on .63 or .67 Gingerbread firmware ?

Today I'm going to share with you the technique to root the Sony Xperia S.


Things to know first

  • Rooting voids your Gadget's warranty.

Requirements


  • Backup all your Data. For backing up SMS,call logs,Gmail,Google calender you can use SMS Backup+
  • You need to unlockThe bootloader of your Xperia S.The guide to unlock your phone’s bootloader can be found HERE.
  • Please make sure that there is a minimum of 70% charge in your phone.
  • Enable USB debugging on your phone by going to "Settings --> Applications --> Development --> USB debugging, where the USB Debugging option should be ticked.
  • Make sure that you have the appropriate Xperia S drivers installed on your PC.

Step by Step Instructions


  • Firstly download the appropriate rooting package based on your firmware version.
  1. 67 Rooting Firmware Package
  2. 63 Rooting Firmware Package
  • Now place the above downloaded image in the fastboot folder that you downloaded while unlocking your bootloader.
  • Now turn-off your phone and again switch it on by pressing Volume UP button while inserting the USB cable which is connected to your PC.
  • Open command prompt on your PC and navigate to the fastboot folder where you placed the firmware image and type in the following commands based on the firmware version you downloaded:

    fastboot flash system system_xps_prerooted_63fw.img

    OR

    fastboot flash system system_xps_prerooted_67fw.img
  • Reboot your phone once the rooting process completes.

Voila ! You have now successfully rooted your Sony Xperia S. Enjoy your Gadget as a superuser.
