How To Root Sony Xperia S

Recently Sony has launched a handful of excellent products that belongs Xperia series. Xperia S is undoubtedly one of the finest among the new comers. Although the device will soon receive an ICS 4 update, wouldn't it be nice if you can get this fine gadget rooted on .63 or .67 Gingerbread firmware ?

Today I'm going to share with you the technique to root the Sony Xperia S.

Things to know first

• Rooting voids your Gadget's warranty.
• We are not at all responsible for damages caused to you or your Gadget while you follow our instructions.

Requirements

• Backup all your Data. For backing up SMS,call logs,Gmail,Google calender you can use SMS Backup+
• You need to unlockThe bootloader of your Xperia S.The guide to unlock your phone’s bootloader can be found HERE.
• Please make sure that there is a minimum of 70% charge in your phone.
• Enable USB debugging on your phone by going to "Settings --> Applications --> Development --> USB debugging, where the USB Debugging option should be ticked.
• Make sure that you have the appropriate Xperia S drivers installed on your PC.

Step by Step Instructions

• Firstly download the appropriate rooting package based on your firmware version.

1. 67 Rooting Firmware Package
2. 63 Rooting Firmware Package

• Now place the above downloaded image in the fastboot folder that you downloaded while unlocking your bootloader.
• Now turn-off your phone and again switch it on by pressing Volume UP button while inserting the USB cable which is connected to your PC.
• Open command prompt on your PC and navigate to the fastboot folder where you placed the firmware image and type in the following commands based on the firmware version you downloaded:
  
  
  fastboot flash system system_xps_prerooted_63fw.img
  
  
  OR
  
  
  fastboot flash system system_xps_prerooted_67fw.img

• Reboot your phone once the rooting process completes.

Voila ! You have now successfully rooted your Sony Xperia S. Enjoy your Gadget as a superuser.

How to root Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 running Android 4.0.3 ICS firmware ZSLPF

Recently Gadget-Surgeon featured a post on how to install Android ICS 4.0.3 build ZSLPF firmware on Galaxy Note GT-N7000. Now, through CF-Root Kernel, you can use the firmware in a better way; yes, I 'm talking about rooting your Galaxy Note running Android 4.0.3 ICS firmware ZSLPF. Thanks to the XDA-Developer senior members who provided the CF-Root kernel.

Things to know first

• The instructions provided here are only for Samsung Galaxy Note (Model GT-N7000).
• We are not at all responsible for any damages caused to you or your Gadget while you follow our instructions.

Requirements

• Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000
• Windows PC
• Make sure that you have backup of all of your data
• You need to enable USB debugging on your Galaxy Note. Follow Settings > Applications > Development
• At least 50% of battery charge
• You must install the appropriate drivers for your device on your computer. Please note that this step is not necessary if you have Samsung KIES. Download driver installer from here: 32-bit (x86) Windows | 64-bit (x64) Windows
• You need to Disable Samsung KIES and any firewall or anti-virus programs
• Download the CF-Root Kernel (CF-Root-SGN_ZS_OZS_LPF-v5.3-CWM5.zip, 6.5 MB) on your computer.
• Download and extract Odin3 1.85 (Odin 1.85.zip, 199 kB) to your computer.

Important Note

You should know that Firmware version ZSLPF has a huge bug. It can damage your SD card and brick your Galaxy Note if you wipe data, do a factory reset, or reformat partitions from recovery. So, to protect your device DO NOT wipe data, perform a factory reset, or reformat partitions from recovery after installing the ZSLPF firmware.

Step by Step Instructions

• First of all, extract the contents of Odin 1.85.zip to a folder on your PC.
• Extract the TAR file from CF-Root-SGN_ZS_OZS_LPF-v5.3-CWM5.zip to your computer.
• Turn off your phone and boot your Galaxy Note into Download Mode by holding down the Volume Down button, Home button, and Power button. When you see a “Warning!” message on the screen, press the Volume Up key to enter Download Mode.
• Run Odin by double-clicking on Odin3 v1.85.exe.
• Then click the PDA Tab on Odin and select the CF-Root-SGN_ZS_OZS_LPF-v5.3-CWM5.tarfile.
• Now connect your Galaxy Note to your computer and you should see an “Added!” message indicating that the device is recognized. If you do not see an “Added!” message, reinstall the drivers or make sure that USB debugging on your phone is enabled.
• Click START to start flashing the kernel and wait for it to finish.
• Remember, once the flashing is complete, the phone will automatically reboot. You will get a “PASS” message indicating successful  flashing. 
• In-case, if you get a “FAIL” message, don't freak out. Just disconnect the phone from the computer, close Odin, remove your phone’s battery, re-insert the battery, and start over from step 3.

Voila ! You have now successfully rooted your Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 running Android 4.0.3 ICS firmware build ZSLPF.

How to install Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware build ZSLPF on Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000

There is a leaked Ice Cream Sandwich version available for Galaxy Note GT-N7000; Today I'll show you how to install that ICS 4 firmware build ZSLPF on your Phablet. Since this one is an official firmware, bugs will not be of our concern.

Before flashing this ROM, you should make sure that your gadget is not tied to any carrier such as AT&T.

Things to know first

• The instructions provided here are only for Samsung Galaxy Note (Model GT-N7000).
• We are not at all responsible for any damages caused to you or your Gadget while you follow our instructions.

Requirements

• Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000
• Windows PC
• Make sure that you have backup of all of your data
• You need to enable USB debugging on your Galaxy Note. Follow Settings > Applications > Development

3. N7000_APBOOT_N7000ZSLPF_CL558430_REV02_user_low_sh ip.tar.md5
4. N7000_CODE_N7000ZSLPF_CL558430_REV02_user_low_ship .tar.md5
5. Q1_20110914_16GB.pit
6. Q1_20110914_32GB.pit

• Now switch off your phone. Boot your phone into Download Mode. For that press and hold down the Volume Down button, the Home button and the Power key together. A “Warning!” screen will appear. Press the Volume Up key to continue to Download Mode.
• Extract Odin 1.85.zip to a folder on your PC. You’ll get Odin3 v1.85.exe. Double-click on Odin3 v1.85.exe to launch it. Once Odin3 is running, do the following and do not make any other changes.

1. Click the PIT button, then chose Q1_20110914_16GB.pit (if your Note is the 16-GB variant) or Q1_20110914_32GB.pit (if your phone is the 32-GB variant).
2. Click the Bootloader button, then choose N7000_APBOOT_N7000ZSLPF_CL558430_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5.
3. Click the PDA button, then choose N7000_CODE_N7000ZSLPF_CL558430_REV02_user_low_ship .tar.md5.
4. Click on CSC button, and choose
   GT-N7000-MULTI-CSC-OZSLPF.tar.md5 file.
5. Click the Phone button, then choose MODEM_N7000XXLR1_REV_05_CL1144476.tar.md5.

• In the Option section in Odin3, make sure the following check-boxes are checked: Re-Partition, Auto Reboot, and F. Reset Time.
• Now, connect your phone to your PC using a USB cable.
• You will be notified with an “Added” message in Odin3 if the phone successfully connects. If not, reinstall the drivers for your Galaxy Note and dont forget to turn on USB debugging on your device.
• Click Start in Odin3 to start the flashing the firmware.
• After the flashing is done, the device will automatically restart and you will see a “PASS” message in the top-leftmost box of the Odin3 window.
• In-case if Odin3 gets stuck or you get a “FAIL” message, just disconnect the phone from your PC, close Odin3, remove the battery, re-insert the battery, and start over from step 2.

Voila ! Your Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 is now flashed with the latest leaked Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware build ZSLPF.
